Less Focus for More

I've been thinking about this for sometime now. All my posts since I started blogging back in 2008 have been about the stories behind the photos that I take. It was my way of maintaining focus in anything I present online, and to steer my blog away from becoming my milk-crate which I climbed every time I felt I had something important to say about the meaning of life. Above all, the blog was an extension of the much older photo galleries and together they would encourage me to take more photos. This has worked beautifully.

Having said that, I do think it's now time for a little more. Although I am by no means an expert in photography, I do read a lot of websites, visit a lot of galleries, subscribe to magazines, follow photographers on twitter and watch/listen to hours of podcasts. I have not shared any of this online because to me it was off theme. I have decided to add this into the ingredients of my blog, sharing with my readers anything I believe useful or fun.

Today, an average post takes me two hours to select and develop images, two hours to write the commentary, and an hour to double check and publish. This is all after I spent some hours capturing the images in the first place. In my relatively busy life, five hours are not often found in one chunk. This explains the frequent silent periods. I'm hoping that with this variety in the content I'll be able to post more frequently without diluting the content. It will of course remain a photography blog.

I will add new categories when appropriate and, it goes without saying, any images not taken by me will be clearly acknowledged.

That is one of the good things about digital on my end! My skill level in digital is 5 out of 10 in analog its 2 out of 10, I can focus and get a picture but not half as good as they are now! But its also time consuming!

Yes I share your sentiment, taking pictures is the fun (and easy) part but then comes the hours of post processing and write up :)
You're doing a good job already and I hope you find more time to spare in between work and family life to keep giving us some great photos :)

i gather, that you intend adding more technical aspects that you would be sharing in your blog. i hope i am right in my assumption. and also hope that it is in no way going to cut down on your usual dose of great pictures, and lovely writeups too. we dont mind the long silences, for we know we can expect something spectacular soon!

Thank you :)

Yes, but not too technical I hope. These posts would only reduce the silence period and will not reduce new content. Thank you for the nice words :)
