Drive-by Shooting

When I was in Egypt, we drove to Alexandria for a meeting.  My host was kind enough to drive me through the town and on the corniche. The meeting was near the harbour and I really didn't want to be so close and not see this old city.

The contrast theme continues here...  The modern building below is the main library.  The older buildings are (were) beautiful with wonderful details and elaborate designs.  Unfortunately the maintenance, if it exists, is very poor.  The main square is interesting, but with a good revamp would look magnificent.  The Alexandria tram adds to the character of the city.  It was a short drive: about twenty minutes or so.  The images below summarise what I saw.
